das, -, Ningyo-Jōruri [-dʒo-], eine der japanischen Formen des Puppentheaters, gehört zu den traditionellen Bühnenkünsten Japans (japanisches Theater). Das Bunraku besteht aus der Rezitation eines epischen Gedichts (Jōruri), vorgetragen vom Tayu, einer musikalischen Begleitung mit einem dreisaitigen Instrument, dem Samisenspiel, sowie der Gestik und Mimik der Figuren. Eine Hauptfigur wird von bis zu drei Spielern gleichzeitig geführt. Die Figuren sind 100-150 cm groß und 5-20 kg schwer. - Die Form des Bunraku entwickelte sich Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts (frühe Edo-Epoche) und fand im 18. Jahrhundert ihren Höhepunkt. Die Spielvorlagen des Bunraku sind Bühnendramen von Chikamatsu Monzaemon mit Alltagsbeschreibungen und Jōruri aus der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts.
